YUZAWA TOWN, Japan - About 600 skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes at the Kagura-Mitsumata ski area on Nov. 16 as the resort in Yuzawa town, Niigata Prefecture, opened to the public one week earlier than expected because of an unusually heavy snowfall. The Kagura-Mitsumata area saw its first snow on Oct. 29, and as of Nov. 16, mountain peaks had 80-90 centimeters of snow, and the lowest Mitsumata piste was covered with around 30 cm.

The pancake was about 8 meters wide and 3 centimeters thick, weighing about 1.6 tons. It was large enough to serve 5,000 people, the group said. The okonomiyaki pancake was made with 400 cabbages, about 4,300 eggs and nearly 90 kilograms of pork.

WAKAYAMA, Japan, Oct. 4 Kyodo - Around 60,000 homes in a western Japan city have been facing a water outage since a section of a water pipe bridge collapsed, city officials said Monday.Some 138,000 people in parts of the city of Wakayama have been affected. The bridge that spans the Kinokawa River is not used for crossing banks by people or cars. In the incident, confirmed on Sunday evening, the two pipes on the bridge collapsed for about 60 meters near the center of the river. The bridge is 546 meters long, with each pipe measuring around 90 centimeters in diameter.

FUKUI, Japan - A fossil of a foreleg believed to belong to a large plant-eating dinosaur was excavated in a stratum from the Cretaceous period in Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum said July 11. The fossil is one of the largest foreleg fossils ever discovered in Japan, with its length estimated at about 90 centimeters and width about 25 cm, according to the museum. 2-yr-old girl goes missing at Tokyo kindergarten

TOKYO, Japan - A 2-year-old girl has been missing since the morning of Nov. 22 when she was last seen at a kindergarten in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward, police say on Nov. 23. The girl, Haruna Wakayama, disappeared at about 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 22 at the kindergarten her 5-year-old brother attends. Haruna is about 90 centimeters tall and has shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a long-sleeved shirt with pink and white stripes, red shorts, and white sneakers rimmed with pink, police said.
